Admin The Central Ohio Linux Users Group has a mixed majordomo and Mailman run mailing list. Topics center (not too surprisingly) on Linux system setup, maintenance, and antecdotes. It is a moderate volume list -- maybe 5-25 pieces a day. It does, however, have a nice, high content to 'noise' ratio, and is aggressively UCE (unsolicited commercial email, i.e., spam) filtered ... A digest of each list is available. A few notes regarding all lists:
COLUG
A subject line header of [COLUG] is automatically added to each post. This should help users using mail sorting software. If your post does not immediately show, it probably was directed by the program to an editor, for possible 'repost.'
I'm hungry ...There also exists a 'colug-lunch' list, with a broader charter ['I'm hungry in body and soul -- Where do the geeks eat?']. here
I'm looking for a better job ...There also exists a 'colug-jobs' list, with a broader charter ['I heard about an opening that was interesting']. Recruiter posts here, please, rather than in the general mailing list. here
Reply-To MungeWe 'munge' the Reply-To header, as a conscious decision. See, e.g., the Majordomo FAQ at section 3.4. See also: this. The appears to be sanctioned at section 4.4.3 of RFC 822.For a contrary opinion, see here. This topic is probably a vi vs. emacs, or a TUI vs. GUI debate -- not capable of one 'correct' answer. If you find this problem, consult man procmail, and you can mangle inbound mail as preferred and to taste. Failing that, see this link for a compilation of mail and news management tools. See also, demime. And then speaking of contrary opinions, there is DJB's (and not DJB ex Red Hat) check-in on the topic here, implicitly ignored in RFC 2369. There are several expired draft RFC and related Reply-To proposals: DRUMS, Mailing List Behaviour (Tip o' the hat to the RPM-List) As noted, we also 'brand' the subject line of the list, but see: RFC 2919 -- Except for the history of the group, its orientation to help new users, and the fact that it greatly pre-dates this RFC, we would probably not ... . |
