Yep -- it in turn points to the Brian ('The BS') Smith's
linux-wlan-ng project at Absolute Value systems, down north of
Tampa (Bryan is intermittently a member of SLUG, which LUG's
website is hosted on the physical COLUG host box) -- Bryan
reminds me a lot of Mark N of COLUG - enormous energy and
enthusiasm.

Part of the costs on the project were sponsored by Intersil.
The result appears to be licensed under a license which asserts
variously GPL and BSD type constraints, at differing parts of
the source code.

As noted:

The code there is a mish-mash -- hand hacked 'Configure' scripts
and rather touchy about building, depending on kernel version,
conpiler, and packaging approach -- occasional .deb's. tarballs,
and an RPM without SRPM or .specfile offered ; also relevant is
  http://prism2.unixguru.raleigh.nc.us/
which attempts to rationalize the process. The absence of a
single clean hands off, non-root buildchain solution is ...
troubling ... Until it will build as non-root, or in a defined
chrooted environment, I am distrustful.

The interesting files are:

/sbin/nwepgen
/sbin/wlancfg
/sbin/wlanctl-ng
/sbin/wland

It does appear that a true IBSS Access Point analogue may be
built with the tools, and the pricing on the Prism II chipset
cards is attractive (the darn things are as common as belly
buttons, all at once). Output power levels have been reported
as less than the corresponding Airo based variants. But Airo is
very overburdened with NDA's and so driver reverse engineering
is less likely to be as complete in featureset, ever.

File list from that package series:
