Description:
Outstanding opportunity to work for one of Ohio's premier

Purpose:
Develops or modifies information systems to solve business problems  
for various OSBA departments including definition, analysis and  
design. Prepares program and system specifications, writes systems  
code using Perl, tests functionality and prepares documentation of  
developed programs.

Candidate’s job will be about 50% application design & development,  
30% system administration (or building tools for system  
administration) and 20% troubleshooting.

Essential Job Functions:
Conducts systems analysis research and design activities for  
improving or enhancing OSBA IT systems to meet OSBA needs.
Provides detailed specifications in accordance with department  
standards.
Writes well-structured, easily-maintained, efficiently operating  
program code from moderate to high-level functional specifications  
for new and existing programs. Identifies areas where additional  
definition is required and obtains information.
Formulates test plans and tests and debugs developed programs.  
Participates in user acceptance testing.
Works directly with staff to identify staff and member needs and  
alternative solutions.
Prepares estimates of work effort.
Reports status of activities and issues to project leader as required.
Prepares documentation of developed programs including program and  
user documentation. Conducts staff training, education and  
presentations.
Provides technical guidance and support to less experienced IT staff.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending  
educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and  
establishing personal networks.

Required skills: Linux, Apache 1.3, MySQL 4, Perl 5.8.x, mod_perl  
1.3, X/HTML4, CSS2/3, Javascript (1.4), DOM, CVS, ability to learn  
new things – quickly, ability to manage multiple projects/priorities  
under time pressure, good communication and interpersonal skills.  
Bonus points for: SVN, Ajax. Apache 2.x, mod_perl 2, MySQL 5, Perl6,  
Objective-C, DHTML, RSS/ATOM, XML, PHP, SOAP or XMLRPC, OSX,  
WebObjects, good sense of humor, published CPAN modules, UT2k4 Player.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or  
related field with minimum 2 years programming or systems development  
experience, or equivalent combination.

Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience using MSSQL, Graphic arts abilities (ie  
Photoshop)/Gimp, Load Balancing, Redundant web-serving.
Experience writing Apache modules in C or Perl
Experience writing and documenting software APIs.
Experience with lower-level system programming in C or C++
Experience working on large projects (multiple developers/lots of code)
Experience working on open-source projects (large or small)
