Overview:
The primary function of this position is to serve as a Sr. Technical
Support Engineer on AIX, Linux and SUN initiatives (included in these
initiatives are: ongoing infrastructure enhancements, implementation of
new systems, and expanded integration of Linux with other Applications
at OCLC). In this systems engineer role, the resource will participate
as a technical support engineer on the design, development, deployment
and management of LINUX/UNIX Systems. Additionally, this resource will
be working as part of a team environment to complete many complex design
and integration tasks. DIAGNOSTIC - Diagnostic capability for Linux OS,
Intel Systems and hardware problems.
HARDWARE - Installation support of Linux servers and cluster software,
in-depth knowledge of Intel/AMD systems, peripherals, disk and tape.
NETWORK - Installation, support, configuration TCP/IP, in-depth
knowledge of firewalls, routing tables and load balancers.
Responsibilities:
* Strong problem determination and problem resolution skills - ability
to perform in-depth analysis, apply Linux and clustering concepts and
provide resolution to problems, all in a variety of areas within these
systems.
* Ability to work hand-in-hand with storage administrators to assist
with planning, installing, configuring and managing the recoverability
of OCLC's storage and data.
* Perform analysis and design of software programs and systems.
* Create, analyze, design, modify and test programs and systems.
* Within the specialization of LINUX, performs support role within OCLC.
* Should have a point of view that encompasses a broader view of
systems, multiple components or products and cross platform
functionality.
* Assists in developing functional requirements from prototype systems
and environments.
* Participates in developing and interpreting environmental and system
requirements.
* Must be able to lift 50lbs minimum for server relocations within the
data center
* Participates in architectural reviews and plans.
* Ability to be on call on weekends and evenings.
Qualifications:
* Must have a minimum of 3+ years of LINUX/UNIX specific;
administration, design, integration, analysis and systems support
experience.
* RedHat Certified Technician certification is desired but not
absolutely necessary
