[COLUG] IBM HDD Noise

Hello,
  I just bought a used HDD and upon testing it found it to be very noisy 
(emitting a whining noise & chatter). I realize what causes this, still 
the other 75GXP's I've used never had such a problem. I have run all 
tests on the HDD Fitness disk from IBM and it passed.

  My worry has to do with longevity and reliability of the disc. I 
wanted to know if these noises were a sign of impeding failure or this 
was something that happens to these drives as they age (this one was 
manufactured in 2000).
