[COLUG] SBC DSL

Occasionally I have to engage my Windows box direct-connect to the modem, when
issues regarding service arise. They have refused to provide troubleshooting
for the circuit for Linux, over the last several years. The down times are
infrequent, but they won't deal with either a router or a Linux system, in my
experiences with service outages. You can't even get line problem reports.

Business account will take the router into account, since they provide it, but
it still takes some patience with tech support.

They provide a modem with a cat5 connection. I would recommend a circuit
splitter at the telco box (POTS splitter), with a separate line for the DSL
circuit. It eliminates the need for the filters on each telephone, line
noise and extra troubleshooting issues.

I think the splitter was around $45.00. If you have a security system with
telco access, it's a must, I believe. Nice clean connection.

Hope this is helpful.
