OT: linksys wrt54g spamming stp message every two seconds

I just upgraded the firmware of my Linksys WRT54G cable/dsl router to
2.02.7. Now it is sending some kind of spanning tree protocol message
*every two seconds*. It didn't do this before the upgrade. Is this
perfectly reasonable behavior?

It's not a problem except that I don't like seeing the activity lights
blinking all the time. I like being able to glance at the thing and
confirm that nothing is going on when I expect nothing to be going on.

tcpdump from the point of view of one of the machines on the lan
follows:

[sjs at cobra tmp]$ sudo tcpdump -r stp -s 9999 -x -c 3
