What wireless card model are you using and what distribution? Anything
obviously wrong in the log files when when you insert the USB card?
It could be a driver issue. Just because the system sees it does not mean
it's going to work. Prime example is the airport card in Apple Powerbooks,
a driver update needs to be installed for it to work properly, at least that
was the case on mine.
