Actually, this is very good news. 

Rpm has options to check the files of installed packages. 
After the incomplete restoration, something like rpm -Va 
should give you a quick idea of what to look for. 
See Chapters 6 and 7 of "Maximum RPM" previously mentioned. 

Also, after doing the restore, compared the sorted 
file lists with comm to get another clue.
