If you don't want to do it yourself, I don't have much advice...
However, this month, I purchased a Dell M65 precision laptop which took to
Gentoo well with an afternoon's work.
In terms of my checklist:
+ 1920x1200 WUXGA graphics
+ ipw3945 802.11 a/b/g wireless and gig E wired
+ 2 GB RAM (supports 4 GB)
+ pentium duo, fast enough to virtualize well
+ "usual stuff" (good sound, usb, dvdrw, good battery life if you get the 9
cell battery, docking station, real serial port [for router consoles])
Things I still need to get working:
- hibernate (unfortunately)
- modem (integrated in intel-hda driver: may or may not work)
There's some documentation around on hibernate functions, but I haven't
really delved into it yet.
