Posting to [COLUG], Spinal Tap, and Politics

Here's how to improve the odds of your posts getting to the list.

1. Use interleaved quoting per:

      http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/2000/06/14/quoting.html

Top-posting bloats the size of letters, until they exceed the limit.
(Also, top-posts can be harder to understand,
so people who know the answer to your issue,
often give up and move on to the next letter.)

2. Use plain-text email. Here's how:

       http://www.expita.com/nomime.html#programs

HTML bloats email to exceed the limit.
For extra bonus points, top post in _both_ plain text and HTML.

3. Subscribe.

Amazingly, some posters are surprised when their posts
are denied because they aren't subscribed.

   Subscribe at http://www.colug.net/mailing_list/

4. Post political stuff to colug-politics at colug.net

It's up to you to post to the correct list.

Posting political stuff to colug432 at colug.net really boosts your
score. That someone else snuck a few through, doesn't mean that
you should try also. There are undocumented reports of some correlation
between posters of political stuff to colug432 at colug.net and
drummers. Some disappear in a cloud of smoke, knocking over
their kit. The police have told us we just shouldn't ask
   about one of the drummers.

5. Pray.

Some of _my_ posts have disappeared without a trace
and _I_ don't know why. That's just too bad.

The net is a wild and wooly place.
Email is _not_ a guaranteed delivery service.
Look at the "Received: " lines in the headers.
Bad things can happen at each step.
   Entropy rules.
