Another dead computer, another bulged capacitor.
I tried to turn on a computer that I hadn't used for months.
A hard drive LED on the front came on, but that was it and it was dim.
No fans spun. No drives moved. The power LED was off.
After trying several times to turn on the computer,
I unplugged it, waited a few minutes, plugged it back
in and tried again, looking at the front LEDs.
It came on, the LEDs were brighter, the fans moved, then there was
a hissing sound and a foul smell came out of the computer,
so I turned off the computer. Considering the hissiness of the
sound, and that the motherboard did not have any bulged caps,
I decided to look at the caps in the power supply.
I found a bulged 1650uF 16V cap by the output wires. I replaced
it with a 1500uF 16V cap, and now the computer works fine again.
The bad capacitor is about 612uF now, but its value keeps changing.
