Do you care about stereo?  Stereo would double the number of inputs.

I have a $40 4-input mixer from Radio Shack:

(But I've actually never used it.)
You'd probably need various cable adapters to work with something like 
that, since the inputs are 1/4" mono jacks.  And in this particular case 
beware that the AC adapter is a separate purchase, with little guidance 
about tip size.


Some amplifier/speaker systems have two inputs that mix together at a 
constant level, so one solution might be to get two of those.

Doesn't the laptop (or its dock) have built-in speakers?  That should 
reduce the input requirements.
