I have a slightly different take on this.  This forum is read
by many people with varying degrees of experience with Linux.
Sometimes people really don't ask the right questions.  And
sometimes others with less experience are never-the-less
interested in the responses to questions posed by others.
Tangential information often provides valuable background
knowledge to someone interested in the topic at hand -- that's
the primary reason I subscribe to this reflector.  And, believe
me, I skim the responses a lot.

Rather than becoming annoyed when someone posts information
that is irrelevant to your needs, perhaps it would be better
to consider it as not a reply directed to you personally, but
rather to others who do not possess your level of expertise.
