Both MacOS and Linux love PostScript printers, so if you know a printer is 
PostScript-capable then you know it'll work on both, without needing to 
check for drivers.

You might consider picking up a used Postscript-capable LaserJet (or 
similar; I like my Lexmark Optra E312) at someplace like Computer Express 
(next to Bethel Rd Micro Center).

Also note that you can get little network interfaces for around $70 to turn 
any USB or parallel printer into a network printer.
