I've used XFS on several Gentoo and Linux from Scratch systems for /usr, /var,
/tmp, /opt, and /home and never had any problems. (The /boot was ext2 and /
was Reiserfs.) They were typically desktops but two were home servers. One
of the servers functioned for over two years before I shut it down early this
year. Note that these were basically experimental/learning systems here at
home, so they may not be representative of performance and reliability in a
more stressful environment.
