[COLUG] Does anyone have experience with Wacom Bamboo?

Does anyone have experience with the Wacom Bamboo?  MicroCenter has these 
for $80-100, depending on which model you get.

There are instructions (link noted below) for compiling the driver and 
setting up X for the Bamboo, under Ubuntu.

I tried this, but for some reason the tablet won't respond to anything - 
even without X running, the curses-based diagnostic application doesn't 
get any info from the tablet.

The tablet works fine in XP.

I may next try this on my CentOS 5 box.

any thoughts?
