If one wants to have more than one USB serial adaptor plugged in at a time, you'll need them to have serial numbers, and then configure udev to associate a unique alias with each adaptor. I have successfully used FTDI based USB serial adaptors. I was very lucky that the manufacturer went to the bother of having unique serial numbers. Jim
