Once upon a time there was best practice thinking in splitting things up
since you could prevent programs from executing and gaining root
privileges unless it was on a certain partition etc, these days with all
the common/popular scripting languages this is a moot point because the
main binary for the language is usually able to do both regardless of
what partition the script is on.

In fact I've had problems with debian/ubuntu based systems with /tmp set
to noexec as the pre/post installer scripts expect /tmp to be exec, this
"feature" was reported but I don't think anything has been done about it.
