If the chipset is supported usually these days you just plug it in and
it just works, otherwise you go buy one that does, since they cost so
little you'd be stupid to spend an excessive amount of time trying to
get it to work.
As for dosemu, no idea never really had to use it, but with wine and
similar programs you just assign the port to it from the cmd line.
Alternatively there might be some compiler you could use to build it
under linux, no idea, then you might just need a few tweaks to actually
make it build and run rather then redoing the whole thing over, if it
ain't broke and all that.
