[COLUG] Memtest86 causes reboot??

Howdy All,

My fiancee has a Dell E1505n (the one that shipped with Ubuntu 7.04) and
had been working well until recently. These symptoms started happening
about a week or two after upgrading to Ubuntu 7.10.

Basically, the keyboard stops working. That includes ALL of the keys,
including the blue Fn keys. (Those have always worked, even when X was
locked up)

Upon a reboot, there is a long series of beeps and the keyboard still
doesn't work.

After a 24 hour wait (!!), the keyboard works again.

For kicks, I picked the Memtest86 menu item. At approximately 8% complete
(that is, 8% of the tests), the laptop rebooted, and the keyboard is
locked up again. (Last time this happened she had about two days' of use
before the problem cropped up again.)

I don't have a USB keyboard lying around to see if this is a keyboard
issue or a memory/motherboard issue.

Should Memtest86 cause a reboot? The built-in Dell diagnostics don't
indicate a problem...

Thanks,
J
