[COLUG] kubuntu read/write permission and printer acess

I first want to thank those who sent me messages concerning getting my
Kubuntu laptop talking to an NT4 server database file with read-write
permissions. They got me headed in the correct direction.

The final solution was using the KDE gui under "system settings" and
then selecting "disk and file systems" to add the mount points. It uses
smbfs instead of CIFS, but it works. "Type" should be "windows file
sharing". It does connect to our database on the NT4 server and share it
with other windows clients.

The fstab file entry made by the gui is:

\134\134server\134alidata /media/alidata smbfs
uid=0,gid=0,auto,rw,users,credentials=/etc/fstab_smb_credentials_1 0 0

Now, I could use some ideas on getting the windows application to
recognize the cups printers. The printers are network printers with
fixed IPs. According to what I read, any printers configured on Linux
under CUPS should be recognized by the program running under wine. Well,
my wine application doesn't see any printers. Printers work ok under
Linux. Notepad under wine does recognize the printers, but font problems.

Any ideas on what to try to get the wine application to see the network
printers would be appreciated. Already looked at WineHQ and various
other places.

Thanks in advance,
Charlie Morrison

P.S.

I am already trying to move the application to Linux, but this could
take as long as 1 more year, so I want the printers to work using
Kubuntu for the next year or so.
