My first thought was: Gee. Does Sun even _ship_ a 64 bit amd
ready variant?

But chasing down the link I use into their archived versions,
I see this:

Linux x64 Platform - J2SE(TM) Development Kit 5.0 Update 10

Download Now! Linux x64 RPM in self-extracting file
(use 32-bit version for applet and Java Web Start support)
jdk-1_5_0_10-linux-amd64-rpm.bin 40.71 MB
Download Now! Linux x64 self-extracting file (use
32-bit version for applet and Java Web Start support)
     	jdk-1_5_0_10-linux-amd64.bin 41.85 MB

which link is off:
  	http://www.trading-shim.org/faq/?java

That link also has instructions for manually getting Sun's
Java working in browsers, toward the bottom.
