VMware has suggested that for Linux boxes running on their VM software 
for quite some time now.  I tend to run CentOS in my VMs and the 
clock=pit has worked for them quite well.  Before adding that the clock 
drift was so bad that it could lose 5 minutes over the course of an hour 
or so.
