That's what I mean.  That should mean it's OK to pick.  Then you would 
name your machines like "winxp.local.bakerlocal".

Yeah, that's one reason I recommended picking a two-level domain.  
Top-level domains don't seem to have SOA records to check for.  I'm not 
enough of a DNS guru to understand why.
