I am a 37 year old Sr. Network Security Admin for a local big credit
union in Ohio.
I have been using Linux since around '96 in and out. My first distro was
so long ago I have forgotten, I have been using Ubuntu mainly right now
(call it tired of upgrading GCC in Gentoo :) )and like it very much. I
still like Gentoo, as I am a control freak over my servers, but as time
goes by, I dont have 5 hrs to devote to building a command-line server.
Updating it seems not to break anything which is a plus in my field. I
generally build my own firewalls for home and friends and use it to do
VPN's and routing. I have programmed in several languages starting with
the Commodore PET. I try to keep my programming a minimum but it seems
to be a necessary evil in my duties. I am constantly fascinated by
networking, protocols, and security and focused my attention to that
recently.
I run my own mail server here at home, enjoy banning whole continents
from my mail server, and don't "do" web work, though I have done web
apps in the past including the help desk my previous and current
employer both use.
