[COLUG] Ubuntu Edgy SATA disk problem

I have moved to Columbus recently and am new to this group.

I am running ubuntu edgy with kernel 2.6.17-10-generic on a SATA hard
disk. When i shutdown the laptop the hard disk makes click sound and
after some search on google found out that its because of the HD's
head not parking itself. This is a know bug on this kernel & a few
others (see links below)

Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I am worried about the
health of my hard disk! Any help/pointers greatly appreciated
