So that possible cause has been probably eliminated.

When the computer doesn't respond to PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse, 
sometimes using USB keyboard and USB mouse will work. 

Of course, that's not a solution but trick for one's bag of tools. 
I keep a PS/2 to USB adaptor handy.
