[COLUG] Linux behavior problem

I am using Kubuntu connected to a Windows network and am cataloging
photos. My procedure is to open a directory, preview an image, select
the image, copy it to clipboard, go to another window where I am
collecting photos, and paste the photo into the collection.
Everything works well, except when I return to the photo subdirectory
and then backup one directory to the master directory, the focus goes
back to the beginning of the directory. I then have to remember where I
left off, and find the next subdirectory. I have close to 1000
subdirectories so zooming to the bottom 1000 times is very time consuming.
In windows, the focus always goes back to the current subdirectory, so I
just move to the next one and go.
I hate to say that I finally have found something that Windows does
better than Linux.
Please prove me wrong and show me a way to reconfigure Linux to emulate
this behavior.
