My friend picked up a new Toshiba with Vista and I put 6.06 Ubuntu on
it, the wireless driver kept crashing however.

Upgraded to the Feisty kernel and it hasn't crashed since, the system
had a software driven volume switch which worked fine although I didn't
get too much into the other special/function keys so couldn't tell you
if everything worked, but the most important things did.
