I agree it might not be the best analogy, and yours may be a little closer to 
the mark, but a certain amount of tinkering comes with the territory when you 
opt for a free operating system.  So while it might suck that you have to 
wire your own radio while others a crusing around town with the top down, 
blarring their radioes, you'll have the satisifaction of knowing you can fix 
yours if it breaks instead of breaking the piggy and taking the whole shebang 
to the dealer.

Linux is born from the mariage of a couple of hacker's delights.  Hopefully it 
will always retain that heritage.
