And that appears to be the difference between our positions. We see to
agree that "normal use" is the responsibility of the end-user... but we
differ in terms of what specific actions are normal use.
In my eyes, you need to install the right drivers with many kinds of OS's
(everything except Macs or other certified hardware/software solutions, in
fact) when you install a "fresh" OS. That's normal use in modern
computing. I do that in Windows, Linux, and BSD. Sometimes it's more
complicated than other times (specialized hardware drivers required to
begin the install of Windows 2003 server to install on a new dell rackmount
server), and sometime's it's easier... hitting F6 during a Windows XP load
to grab the right I/O drivers).
To me, typing "linux all-generic-ide" is not all that different from
hitting the enter key, or typing "linux". That all seems to fall into the
"normal use" category to me. But apparently you feel differently. I guess
we'll just have to agree to disagree.
