I guess that is a side effect to running Gentoo and still installing it the 
old fashioned way (stage 3 without using the GTK installer).  Even if pieces 
of the hardware don't work as expected with the LiveCD, they certainly work 
(assuming Linux support) after the kernel has been built by hand.  Of course 
while others are playing with their nice shiny new 'puters after a day (or 
less if no hassles), I'm still crunching bits in a compiling frenzy. :)
