Just FYI regarding disconnects using cellular telephones for Internet
access:
I use my Motorola E815 over Bluetooth to access 1xRTT (144 Kbps)
Internet via Verizon Wireless. The PPP stack I am talking to on the
other end (in my phone or on the VZW end, don't know exactly) does not
respond to Link Control Protocol (LCP) pings. The default setup for
pppd, at least in Debian, is to send one of these every thirty seconds.
After four non-responses, the connection is assumed hung and
terminated. This results in two-minute-only sessions under the Debian
default configuration. To fix this kind of behavior,
open /etc/ppp/options and comment out the lines about 'lcp'.
