I've been doing this for about 18 months or so.  At first it reduced the 
incoming spam to just about zero.  Spammers are slowly catching on and 
the level of spam getting through keeps rising.  I don't know the exact 
numbers, but its still effective.

As a side effect I don't get a lot of my email quickly.  Sometimes it 
will be an hour late, sometimes it will be a day late.  I've had emails 
come in a day and a half late.
