Mike,

Earlier this year, I bought an Optoma DLP projector because I was
planning on doing presentations promoting Linux as an alternative OS
(which sadly, haven't materialized).  I think with rebate it was around
$600.  I got one with 1024 by 768 resolution (rather than 800 by 600) in
case I need to show a desktop.  Mine works fine with my Compaq notebook
running Ubuntu 6.06, although I had to install the ATI drivers to get
the external video port working.

The thing I found out was that the lamps cost about half of the cost of
the projector.
