David,
I have the same Broadcom wireless device.
Historically I've had to use the Ndiswrapper for this -- for the last
three Ubuntu releases, and Fedora before that.
I don't know if Gutsy handles it better.
Plug into the ethernet and use Synaptics to search for "Ndis."
There's a GUI program to install your Broadcomm dll's so it's not to
bad to handle.
