[COLUG] OpenXML

Others have said yes- bad for Linux ... But I seem to say "so what" -- it may affect pseudo-competing products a la OpenOffice in that it will be burdensome to implement the 6000 page spec, but I don't see how it has anything to do with the several hundred Linux servers I control, or the probable thousands under the control of other engineers/admins on this list. Nor for the millions in production use across the globe. E.g. Where the bulk of the Linux install base comes from.

Those who choose Linux as a desktop platform are savvy and smart enough to decide for themselves. I need not say anything more there.

Those who are clueless and just drink the kool-aid will continue to do so.

So. I say no- it won't have an adverse effect on Linux.

I just received an email from Microsoft that Office OpenXML (ISO/IEC DIS
29500) will be approved as an international standard. Is this a good
thing for Linux?
