Keep in mind with VMWare there are lots of different processes running:

* For each running guest there is a vmware-vmx process with the path
to the guests config file.
* Then there is vmware-serverd which is the guy that the vmware-server-
client connects to and acts at the interface to everything else.
* an assortment of network related processes that have never caused me
trouble on a proper install

I somewhat frequently see vmware-serverd crack under pressure (lots of
boots, new vms, vms deleted while running, etc). Usually killing it
and restarting it as root straightens things out without actually
having to shut everything down. Though I really don't expect this to
happen under normal usage. We have several users who are quite hard
on vmware server.
