Hmm ... googling the power state error suggests permissions  
problems ... or are you running a Xen kernel with centos?  I am not  
sure about how vmware runs on a Xen kernel.  If you are running the  
xen kernel, you might try installing the non-xen kernel and booting  
off that.  And of course make sure that the user you connect as with  
vmware-server-console has the appropriate permissions on the VM you  
are trying to run.  I would just make sure that the vm is owned by the  
user and the directories are writable by that user.
