We currently have name servers located in the US, though we wouldn't say
no to sponsorship of others ;)
The wiki page needs a little updating but is still mostly accurate:
http://www.e164.org/wiki/Infrastructure
We currently have multiple name servers in North America, UK and
Australia, the point of my original email is we're trying to reduce the
latency for people in South America, Africa and Asia.
Normally it doesn't matter too much about DNS latency of 200-500ms,
however we deal with ENUM which is primarily used by VoIP at this stage,
and while not critical it is ideal to reduce DNS latency where possible
since this will also reduce dialing times for people that do ENUM
lookups before falling back to PSTN dialing, well everyone using VoIP
should be doing ENUM lookups/connections but that's another story ;)
