I doubt I'd ever buy another Sony for as long as I live because I have
had issues too, and having a failed hdd shouldn't mean needing a new
motherboard to fix it, or when the battery failed it didn't just fail to
hold a charge but every time it was bumped in just the right way it
would kill all power to the computer.

I've installed Ubuntu on both my own and my partners Sony laptops (small
sample I know) but I haven't had any install problems with any of the
hardware except the dial-up modem which is a winmodem.
