One thing to keep in mind when hosting your own mail server: how are you
connected to the internet?

I have learned that some places will automatically drop any e-mail
originating from a DSL or Cable Modem based IP address. This is a way to
avoid those spammers that use such networks, but it's a hassle when you've
sent an e-mail and folks say they never get it. For example, I was having
an e-mail conversation with someone at my bank when one day they suddenly
stopped getting my e-mail. Unfortunately their IT folks didn't share any
information about why this occurred, but other recipients of my email
weren't having any issues; so all I can figure is that the email was
dropped due to IP address.

Cheers,
