[COLUG] LCD Backlight

I recently had the backlight on an LCD monitor fail after about 3 years
of full-time use. From comments, I've received, I'm guessing this is
about normal.

My main workstation is usually on most of the day (on in the morning,
off at night). Would I prolong the backlight life if I turn the monitor
off when I take major breaks (30+ minutes) or is the on/off cycle harder
on the backlight than continuous on?
