[COLUG] KDE is acting up in FC8

A few days ago KDE stopped working for me. When I start it up, it
appears to start just fine at first. But when kicker (the task bar)
comes up, it immediately shuts down and I'm left with a screen full of
icons. If I try to click on an icon, the screen immediately goes black
except for the cursor and gkrellm, which comes up every time I start
KDE. Gnome works just fine for me, so I've been using that the past few
days. I haven't found anything useful in /var/log/messages
or .xsession-errors. Any ideas on where else to look?

A little more background, earlier this month I upgraded FC6 to FC8 using
yum, and everything was working fine for a while. I also bought a new
barebones system which works just fine once I turned off acpi and
installed the proprietary ATI drivers. But if this was the problem, why
would Gnome work for me but not KDE?
