If it is an SDTV, I would just give up. The low resolution will make  
it less than worthless as a desktop, but fine if all you want is to  
play video on it. If it is an HDTV, you should be able to use it  
reasonably well, provided you can get it hooked up. If it only has  
HDMI input, you won't get it hooked up to your VGA port. You will need  
a video card with HDMI or DVI and a DVI to HDMI cable. Even then, you  
may not have a great picture. Typical resolution for a computer  
monitor that size is higher than HDTV. Using HDTV resolution at that  
size means a lower DPI. I wouldn't mind that on a 1080 monitor, but I  
don't think I would bother with 720 at that size.
