Keep in mind that what is now known as AT&T is not what we used to know as 
AT&T.  The local-wire service is the company formerly known as SBC (the 
baby bell that absorbed most of the others), which bought the old AT&T 
long-distance company and then renamed itself.  (Reminiscent of SCO.)

The wireless-phone service is what used to be called Cingular (and is not 
to be confused with the earlier AT&T Wireless company), but became part 
of SBC/AT&T when the latter bought BellSouth.

Time for another divestiture, I think.
