I recently asked for advice between Nvidia and ATI, only options in the
ASUS laptop models I was looking at, someone suggest Nvidia was "ok"
under linux and that their friends hadn't had any problems with the nv
driver.
Unfortunately neither the nv driver and the nvidia driver works with the
GE 9500M GS chipset in the laptop under ubuntu with more then 2.5-3G of
ram and I have 3G of ram, at which point the system or the OS remaps the
video ram into 64bit memory space and the nvidia installer complains
bitterly.
Although trying to get to the root of the problem I loaded fedora 9 live
CD and the nv driver worked fine, but I haven't figured out what patches
they've applied that debian or ubuntu haven't.
