This laptop funnily enough only came with the 32bit version of Windows 
Vista Ultimate, although that only lasted as long as it took to boot 
from the linux install and format the hdd

I can't recall if I ended up trying the 32 bit version of Ubuntu or not, 
something I will endeavour to try a bit later today regardless.
