[COLUG] SATA RAID controllers for Linux

Does anyone have strong opinions or (better) experiences they'd like to 
share about using various SATA RAID controllers with Linux?

I'm looking hard at the 3ware 9550 or the Adaptec 5405, but would be 
interested in anyone's experiences with hardware based RAID controllers on 
Linux systems.  I've had enough bad experiences with Highpoint to want to 
stay away from software-based RAID systems.
